So I didn't have a lot of time to paint yesterday, but I needed to connect again with that part of my creativity. I decided to put away the bigger canvases (I know, I know... compared to a lot of artists, I don't work very big... YET!) and work on something small. I'd bought these mini-canvases (4"x4"x1-1/2" gallery wrap) on sale at Michael's and thought I'd give them a try. I've only worked on a series once before ("the Doors" - a series I plan to re-visit in the near future) so I thought it'd be good experience.
Prepping can sometimes take nearly as long as the painting/collaging... or it seems like it. But it's also very meditative for me, especially with these small ones. Because I'm not a big fan of the nubbiness on canvas, I like to glue good quality magazine pages down as my substrate, and even though a canvas pattern will sometimes show through, I really love the slick base. It's great for the layers and glazing techniques that I keep coming back to as my fave process right now. Pictures don't even begin to capture the depth that all the multiple layers create. They just make me happy!
So here's what the mini's looked like once they were prepped...

And here's what they looked like when I had to stop... (there are 6 layers so far... and probably at least 4 more to go...) (just remember iPhones don't capture color all well and the lighting was reflecting off of them no matter what I tried)...
I think they'll end up being fun little pieces. Stay tuned and I'll post another pic when they're finished.
Have a great day, and I hope you get your creativity on!
