It's been a year of life happening, that's for sure. My mom, who we cared for and enjoyed in our home for the past 7 years, finally gave up her struggle in March. I suppose it took me a few months to find level ground again. I didn't paint or create much during that time, but just used it to grieve and heal and find a new normal in our home. Fast forward to about September and I began to panic as I realized my annual art fair, "Art in the Park" at Utica Square in Tulsa, was rapidly approaching on October 1st. I created some new book cover collages, a couple of new paintings, and some mini assemblages (for your viewing in "My Art") and loaded up on September 30th and headed out. October 1st was a perfect Fall day and I had a new location that I really enjoyed. There was a lot of foot traffic and compliments and dogs, but not many purchases. In visiting with other artists there I discovered they didn't sell much either. I think the upcoming election and the overall climate of the world news is redefining how people are spending their money right now. I know we are as well. But I loved being there and I'm already looking forward to next year. I hope to add one or two more art fairs to my schedule as well.
2016 was year where I had another piece of art published in a gorgeous book, Incite 4:
And I was selected as 1st place overall in an online gallery exhibition for November provided by Light Space &Time Online Gallery (www.lightspacetime.com) for which I was thrilled and overwhelmed!
(NOTE: I'm having technical difficulties posting the actual painting here.... I'll keep working on this, sorry!)
And I suppose my big news is that effective January 6, 2017, I will be retiring from my "real job" and pursuing my art and creative endeavors full time. I really am excited to have the opportunity to not only paint without the time constraints of weekends that also include laundry, cleaning, and life in general with my hubs and fur babies, but I have some ideas for offering the creative and healing aspects of art in other venues. I'm claiming 2017 as the year of New Beginnings!
I hope you'll join me in the future full of promise!
